Rappler’s index crime report: Duterte’s campaign promise is empty

Will you entrust the country on empty promises?

Rappler recently issued a report that summarizes the Philippine National Police’ report on index crimes in the top cities in the Philippines.

Interesting facts: Davao City is 4th in crime volume, 1st in murder, 2nd in rape cases, 4th in robbery, 3rd in homicide — among others. Those are the objective facts.

So, Mayor Duterte’s campaign promise of a crime-free Philippines hinges on his “exibit A” — Davao City. But what if after 20+ years of being mayor, his city is still objectively on top of the list of cities with high volume of crime? What does that make him and his campaign?

Campaign promise: 3 to 6 months, he’ll solve crime in the Philippines. Demagogue. Trying to make empty promises just get votes. TRAPO. Power hungry. And remember, corruption is not just about stealing money, it’s also about aspiring for and using power for his own good. And what does it make of his supporters if you’ll vote for a person out of his empty promises? Just because he has charisma and funny?

Are you going to disrupt our country’s upward trajectory for the sake of perceived “change”?

From a Facebook commenter: Readers have to understand these numbers in relation to the population of the city.

With QC’s 2,679,450 population, the crime index is 2.4450% as compared to DC’s 2.7641% crime rate because its population is a mere 1,363,337 population.

This means that for every 1000 residents of Quezon City, around 24 persons are victims of crime in one way or another. In Davao, for every 1000 residents, around 27 persons are victims of crimes.

Yet Duterte campaign will do to all of the Philippines what he did with Davao City. If that is so, our crime rate will have to rise to 2,791,741… OR in a smaller scale, had he been the mayor of QC, the crime rate will have to rise to 74,062 crimes from the original 65,000.
